Set in the world of open-wheel championship racing, Driven began filming in the Spring of 2000. Before principal photography began July 6, which, coincidentally, is Sylvester Stallone's birthday, Harlin and a small crew took advantage of the open-wheel racing season by covering the series around the world. The desire to create an authentic experience for the audience led to an extraordinary guerilla filmmaking effort at actual races, which sometimes afforded the filmmakers only minutes to stage a scene in the middle of an actual race. Such an undertaking demanded a literal minute-to-minute synchronization of the cast and crew with the real drivers and events. more
